The story behind the icon
The station image is the universal symbol of medicine.
The Ministry of Health and Assistance (today the Ministry of Health) decided to build a Medical Centre.
In order to take advantage of the proximity of several hospitals already in the area, a site with suitable conditions was chosen, bounded to the north by the National Institute of Cardiology and the Mundet Maternity Hospital, now the Children's Hospital; to the south by Avenida Central; to the east by the streets of Doctor Jiménez; and to the west by Avenida Cuauhtémoc. The work was paid for entirely with funds provided by the National Lottery.
Its primary mission is to carry out the effective prevention of disease and the treatment and rehabilitation of the sick; it also pursues research in its two main aspects, the scientific and the clinical.
The Centro Médico Siglo XXI is one of the most renowned and technologically advanced medical complexes in Mexico.
