The station silhouette is a wasp.
Chilpancingo is a Nahuatl word meaning place of wasps. It was founded on 1 November 1591, thanks to the permission granted by the viceregal government to the Leyva, Adame, Guevara and Alarcón families to set up a camp and provide relay animals for the stagecoaches running from Mexico City to the port of Acapulco. Today Chilpancingo is divided into four ancestral districts: San Mateo, San Francisco, San Antonio and Santa Cruz; it has more than 300 neighbourhoods, and its basic activities are commerce, education, administration and services. It is currently the educational centre of the state, owing to the features that made it the geographical, historical and political centre from 1940 on, the moment when the city began a dynamic growth.
