The story behind the icon
The station icon represents the international symbol of the Red Cross.
On 5 February 1905 the General Hospital of Mexico began its work, caring for 216 patients with a staff of 315 doctors and administrators. The permanent medical staff is divided into interns and associates, for the laboratories as well as for the radiology, physiotherapy and dental departments, in addition to heads of service and honorary consultants.
The main function of the General Hospital throughout this time is to provide care and prevention services for the health of millions of Mexicans. It is a great support for the universities that train students in these areas of health, serving as a teaching hospital. Its researchers have stood out for their contributions to the advance of medicine. Out of this institution grew the National Institutes of Nutrition and of Cardiology, which came to form part of the country's most important health institutions.
