The story behind the icon
The station icon shows, in the upper right, the silhouette of a lion's head and, in the lower left, the logo of the Institute for Access to Public Information of the Federal District.
The lion is identified with the old imperial coat of arms of the East African country of Ethiopia. The station is given this name because it is located at the place known as the Etiopía roundabout.
The Institute's headquarters stands a few steps from Etiopía station and is devoted to providing services related to the exercise of the right of access to information, transparency and accountability.
Ethiopia, for its part, is a country in the eastern part of Africa. Its official name is the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; it is also known, however, by the name Abyssinia, which is why its inhabitants are called Ethiopians or Abyssinians. It borders Djibouti and Eritrea to the north, Kenya to the south, Somalia to the east and Sudan to the west, and its capital is Addis Ababa. In 1982 the battle of Adowa was fought between Ethiopia and Italy, in which the Italians were defeated.
In 1935 Italy finally achieved the invasion, which lasted the following five years. In 1941, in the middle of the Second World War, the British liberated Ethiopian territory and the monarchy was restored. In 1977 it became the Socialist Republic of Ethiopia. In 1987 the socialist regime came to an end and Ethiopia was officially declared a Federal Democratic Republic.
From 9 April 2009 the name of Etiopía station changed to Etiopía / Plaza de la Transparencia.
