The story behind the icon
The station icon represents the pyramid of Ehécatl (god of the wind). In the Aztec culture Ehécatl was as venerated as Tláloc or Quetzalcóatl.
The pyramid was discovered during the excavations for the building of Pino Suárez station and marks the southern limit of the great Tenochtitlan.
José María Pino Suárez, revolutionary, vice-president of the Republic, lawyer, journalist, poet and writer, founded the newspaper El Peninsular, in which he wrote against the tyranny the peasants suffered, pressing for their betterment.
A member of the anti-re-election party, he took part in the political campaign of Francisco I. Madero; when the revolution broke out, he was named governor of Yucatán.
He was murdered along with President Madero.
