The story behind the icon
The station image represents the emblem of the Federal Executive Power.
The word zócalo, in architectural terms, means the lower body of a construction.
In the times of Santa Anna a monument to Independence was planned but never carried out, and the only thing that could be raised was the plinth of the construction. It was removed because it hindered the movement of pedestrians.
The Plaza de la Constitución has around it a great number of buildings of unmatched architectural richness, such as the National Palace itself, seat of the offices of the President of the Republic, the Viceregal building, seat of the Government of the Federal District, which dates from colonial times, and the metropolitan Cathedral, among others.
