The story behind the icon

The station silhouette is the bust of one of the liberators of the Independence.

Ignacio Allende was born in San Miguel el Grande (which in his honour is now called San Miguel de Allende). He entered the viceregal army very young and around that same time began to associate with the priest Miguel Hidalgo, who put him in charge of organising a political movement for the independence of New Spain.

Once the war of Independence had begun, Allende became captain general. He, together with other military leaders and the caudillo Hidalgo, was seized in 1811; as criminals they were taken to Monclova and later to the northern state of Chihuahua, where a summary trial was held that condemned them to death.
