The story behind the icon
The station icon represents the flag of the Republic of Argentina. The station takes its name from its position in the Centro neighbourhood, on the street República de Argentina. It was Manuel Belgrano who, using the colours sky blue and white, created the flag that was first raised in Rosario on 27 February 1812. It was sewn by the hands of María Catalina Echevarría de Vidal. In 1818 the Incan Sun was added at the centre, a sun with a human face, yellow in colour and with 32 rays, based on the design of the first Argentine coin. Today one of the first flags is kept in Tarija, Bolivia. Belgrano chose sky blue because those colours represented the order of Charles III, or else the colours of the sky, which also represent the mantle covering the Immaculate Conception
