The story behind the icon
The station icon represents the façade of the Palace of Fine Arts. Formerly called the National Theatre, it was built across two important periods: the regime of Porfirio Díaz and the Mexican Revolution. The works began in 1904 under the Italian architect Adamo Boari and were expected to be finished four years later. Budgetary and technical problems, however, delayed their completion.
After the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution in 1910, Adamo Boari returned to Europe in 1916, leaving the work unfinished, with the cladding of the dome still to be done. By 1930, under the presidency of Pascual Ortiz Rubio, the completion of the work was entrusted to the architect Federico E. Mariscal. But it was not until 1932, with the support of the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Alberto J. Pani, that construction could continue, with instructions to conceive a building that would house several museums. Thus its name was changed to the Palace of Fine Arts. It was completed on 10 March 1934. Since its creation, the activities carried out in this venue have covered the different expressions in the fields of music, dance, the visual arts, architecture, literature and theatre.
