The story behind the icon
The station image represents the pyramid known as the Monument to the Race.
On Avenida de los Insurgentes Norte at the corner of Calzada Vallejo there is a monument dedicated to the Aztec race.
This work was carried out by the sculptor Luis Lelo de Larrea in 1940. Its construction is of the pre-Columbian pyramid type: at the lower part of its right and left sides it shows us sculptural groups representing the group defending Tenochtitlan and the group founding Mexico; on the upper part of the monument, on each of its faces, there is a bronze relief with inscriptions: Itzcóatl, king of Mexico; Nezahualcóyotl, king of Texcoco; Totoquihuatzin, king of Tlacopan; and the figure of Cuauhtémoc. It is crowned by a majestic eagle originally intended for the Legislative Palace.
