The story behind the icon
The station image represents an ear of maize.
This grass plant is native to America and is gathered for sale in the area near what is now known as the Jamaica market.
The jamaicas were very old festivities held in the bullrings.
On the site occupied by the Jamaica market there was one of them; around it stood stalls decorated with arches of herbs, flowers and aromatic branches. In these stalls the indispensable turkey mole was sold, along with duck, quesadillas, tacos and so on, and as refreshing drinks there were huge jars of red, green, yellow and blue waters. At the entrance to the jamaica, as was the custom at bullfights and at the promenade or entertainment in the ring, tables were set out for eating and drinking. This celebration has almost disappeared from the bullrings, but it is still held in places suitable for a great fair of sales.
