The story behind the icon
The station icon is a figure of the fruit.
When the Asturias and Vista Alegre neighbourhoods were created, a street was planned that was called Chabacano because of the number of apricot trees there were on those vacant lots, which germinated prodigiously owing to the nearness of the Piedad river (which is now piped and is the Viaducto).
The apricot is a summer fruit that was first cultivated in China. It was the Spanish missionaries who brought it to America in the 18th century. This small food is orange-yellow in colour, with sweet, juicy flesh and, above all, very fragrant. It is used to make jams, dried in the form of halves, and from its stones a liqueur is made.
