The story behind the icon

The station icon represents the beads of a rosary, used to say prayers.

In the 16th century the order of the Jesuits had a great expanse of land near Azcapotzalco, where they raised a monastery and a church that they placed under the patronage of the Virgin of the Rosary, and that is how the area has been known ever since. When the Jesuits were expelled from Mexico in the year 1767, many rich miners acquired some of those properties, and it was Pedro Romero de Terreros, first count and marquis of San Cristóbal and San Francisco, who obtained that great estate of El Rosario, turning it into a hacienda. The place was later parcelled out and now forms a large housing complex.
