The story behind the icon

The station image is the silhouette of the bust of King Tezozómoc.

Born in Azcapotzalco in 1427, he ruled for 80 years, had the Aztecs as tributaries and subdued the lordship of Texcoco. On the death of Acolhua, who ruled the Tepanecs, that is to say those of Azcapotzalco, his son Tezozómoc came to the throne, showing from the first that he was like his father: ambitious, cunning and heartless. During his reign he committed countless injustices against his people. He was cruel, scheming and treacherous with his enemies. Nevertheless, and despite everything, he grew old on the throne. He ruled into extreme old age, and was so long at the head of his kingdom that, as the chronicles tell, he dispatched affairs of State from a basket full of cotton. Even so, he always appeared lucid, but excessively cruel and implacable. His greatest enemies were the Mexica and the people of Texcoco, whom he constantly harried and kept always in a state of war.
