The story behind the icon

The station silhouette is an ant.

Azcapotzalco means place of ants. This space was formed by two ethnic groups, Otomí and Teotihuacan. The Chichimecs arrived in Anáhuac long before the Aztecs, led by the chieftain called Xólotl. To settle, they made use of the remains of the destroyed kingdom of the Toltecs. Years later some tribes arrived at this place who came from precisely the same land as Xólotl, who received them with great warmth since they were of his own lineage, and he took the occasion to marry his two daughters to two chiefs of these tribes. Cuetlaxochintli he married to Acolhua, giving as her dowry the town and lordship of Azcapotzalco.

Tenochtitlan, Texcoco and Tacuba formed a triple alliance in order to finish off Azcapotzalco, and with it that last kingdom collapsed; its people, the few who survived, were left as slaves of the three kingdoms.
