The story behind the icon

The station silhouette is the head of a head of cattle.

The working of iron was not known to the ancient Mexicans; it was the Spanish colonists who brought it to the New World and gave the name Ferrería to the industrial establishments. These were set up in places where there were deposits of that mineral and woods for making charcoal. The freight station of the National Railways of Mexico, as well as the slaughterhouse of Mexico City, stand on some very large grounds of a hacienda called Ferrería.

To speak of Ferrería is also to speak of the capital's slaughterhouse (the place where livestock destined for public supply is slaughtered). In the past there were several, spread over strategic places near some railway freight station. To improve supply, only the one at Ferrería was created.
