The story behind the icon
The station takes its name from the fact that the avenue of the National Railways of Mexico runs nearby. Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México was a body created to administer the concessions of all the country's railways by Porfirio Díaz in 1907, who had a great interest in the industrial development of the country and gave a strong impulse to the railway network. The body was not nationalised until 1937, by Lázaro Cárdenas, and only 60 years later was it wound up by Vicente Fox when the Mexican Railway System was broken up. The icon is an abstraction of the old logo of Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, which comprised a mountainous landscape with a track in the centre heading towards the rising sun.
