The story behind the icon
The station silhouette is of a cyclist.
A velodrome is a place intended for bicycle races; this one was created to hold Olympic competitions. It was inaugurated on 13 September 1968 on the grounds of the Ciudad Deportiva de la Magdalena Mixiuhca.
The track was once regarded as unique in the world; moreover, because of the materials it is made of, it is considered one of the fastest.
Its stands hold 4,800 seated spectators. It has a stand of honour for 500 people, and six courtyards that are sometimes used for industrial, commercial and cultural exhibitions. It also has a school where classes are given, with the help of coaches both in the velodrome and in the motor-racing circuit.
