The story behind the icon
The station icon is a pre-Hispanic vessel from Puebla or Tlaxcala.
Tepalcates is a term of Nahuatl origin. Tepalcatl, which means clay pot, is used to designate every kind of implement, dish and vessel made of clay.
The process of making them consists in gathering suitable clays from the surroundings; these are cleaned of impurities and the paste is made with water in order to form the pieces. Afterwards the piece is put into the kiln for firing.
Clay arises from a very long process of geological decomposition. It is composed mainly of alumina, iron and other salts. It comes from the volcanic ash carried by the wind during eruptions.
