The story behind the icon
The station icon shows flowers.
Tlacopan, a name in Nahuatl, means flowering plant.
The inhabitants of the old kingdom of Tlacopan, or Tacuba, belonged to the Tepanec tribe and were ruled by Totoquihuatzin, nephew of Maxtla, who was king of Azcapotzalco. Izcóatl, lord of Mexico, fell out badly with Maxtla and set about fighting him. To make sure of victory over so powerful an enemy, he allied himself with Nezahualcóyotl, who was king of Texcoco.
On the fall of the Tepanec of Azcapotzalco, the victors decided to form a kingdom to replace it. To that end they called on Totoquihuatzin and named him king of the Tepanecs; a line was drawn from north to south, and everything east of it passed to the king of Texcoco; what lay to the west became the property of the king of Mexico; and all the rest became the property of the new kingdom of Tacuba, which, faithful to the alliance made, contributed effectively to strengthening the Aztec kingdom and making it more powerful.
