The refinery was built in 1934 in order to process 11,000 barrels of oil a day. By 1945 the refinery's installations were abandoned and modern ones with a capacity of 50,000 barrels a day were built. Ten years later the last of the equipment originally remaining was replaced by modern units of greater capacity, raising the process to 100,000 barrels a day.
New processing units are currently being installed at the refinery; besides producing petrol, this plant can make raw material for the manufacture of detergents. Other plants are being built that will serve for the concentration of ethylene, which is used in the manufacture of plastics. All these works will put the refinery in a position to supply the market with a great variety of oil products.
