The story behind the icon

The station image represents the silhouette of a burial crypt.

The station takes its name from the area where the cemeteries were established: the German, the Spanish, the French and Sanctorum.

Cemeteries were the work of Christianity in this land. The Chichimecs had the custom that, when their monarch died, the body should remain for five days seated in a chair, so that the mourners might gather. Vassals and friends took charge of putting the royal robes on him and covering his neck with jewels of gold and precious stones. Afterwards they placed him again on another seat of feathers of various colours, richly adorned with incense, perfumes and balsam, in order to burn the body until it was consumed, and they kept the ashes in a small coffer of carved stone.
