The story behind the icon
The station image represents the steam locomotive.
The old station of the Interoceanic Railway (later called the National Railways), built in 1878, was where the narrow-gauge trains left that covered the Mexico-Puebla-Veracruz route and reached as far as the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, joining the Gulf of Mexico with the Pacific Ocean, from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz.
Today there are several buildings and public places throughout that area: the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, the Palace of the Judicial Power of the Federation, the Venustiano Carranza sports centre and police barracks, the Balbuena General Hospital (formerly the Cruz Verde), the Eastern Passenger Bus Terminal (TAPO) and the Chiapas garden, as well as a paraffin factory that had its own unloading railway line and was recently demolished.
