The story behind the icon

The station silhouette is a trajinera (a small boat decorated with flowers).

In the time of the Aztecs, Nativitas lay near Xochimilco, where there was a small lake that people called the lagoon of Nativitas. Because of the relative nearness of Nativitas to the lake of Xochimilco, its inhabitants, in order to live, cultivated chinampas (artificial gardens and floating fields).

The produce of the chinampas was carried in canoes, which sailed along the La Viga canal. They set out from the lake of Xochimilco, passed Nativitas, continued through Iztacalco and reached Jamaica, in order to sell their produce.
