The story behind the icon
The station image represents the helmet of an officer of the time of the conquest.
When Moctezuma learned that Cortés was approaching, he called a meeting of all the nobles of his empire, as well as the neighbouring kings, to decide how they should receive the Spaniards.
To receive them, a showy formation was arranged all along the causeway which, leaving Iztapalapa, passed through Iztacalco and finally joined Tlalpan at the place now called Villa de Cortés.
Ahead of the Spanish troop, an Indian opened the march, proclaiming in the Nahuatl tongue that no one should dare to cross the path of the troops. Thousands of nobles and leading people of the Aztecs received them.
On coming into the presence of Cortés, they welcomed him in their language, bowed, took up earth with the middle finger of the right hand and carried it to their mouths.
