The story behind the icon
The station image represents part of the work Water, the Origin of Life, in the Lerma river cistern in Chapultepec park, a work by Diego Rivera whose central theme is a pair of hands taking water.
The engineer Eduardo Molina was born in Mexico City on 22 August 1892. He carried out his professional studies in the faculty of Engineering of the UNAM. Devoted to municipal hydraulic works, in 1935 he was director of Waters of the Federal District. Three years later he presented to the Society of Geography and Statistics a study called Causes of the Disturbances of the Subsoil of the Valley of Mexico.
In 1960, because of his vast knowledge of the history and the problems of drainage, the regent of Mexico City named him Director of the Works for bringing the waters of the Lerma river to the capital of the Republic. Thanks to that, the city has not again lived through the drought of 1922, in which the water ran out almost completely for more than three weeks.
