The story behind the icon

Aragón station is located between Avenida Río Consulado, Avenida 503 and the Circuito Interior. It belongs to the borough of Venustiano Carranza and to the Simón Bolívar neighbourhood, which adjoins the State of Mexico.
The neighbourhood called Aragón was part of Lake Texcoco, which finished drying up in the 20th century. Around 1931 drainage works were carried out; later President Pascual Ortiz Rubio created the National Demarcation Commission in order to sell land for farming and housing on the federal terrain of the vanished Lake Texcoco.
From the 70s and 80s onwards the area underwent an unusual growth in inhabitants, caused mainly by immigration from other states of the Mexican Republic and by the speculation of land sellers who promoted the purchase of one's own plot at very low prices.
On the other hand, the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) Aragón sponsored the building of housing for workers.
