The story behind the icon
Estadio Azteca is a station of the Light Rail of Mexico City. This station stands in front of the Azteca Stadium. The station logo is a stylised view of that stadium. It is known by the nickname of the Colossus of Santa Úrsula because it stands on the old communal lands of the town of Santa Úrsula Coapa.
The Azteca Stadium was designed by the architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca and was built in 1962. Its capacity is 105,064 spectators comfortably seated, making it the third largest stadium in the world.
