The story behind the icon
The station takes its name from the district in which it stands, the San Bartolo Atepehuacán neighbourhood.
The town of San Bartolo Atepehuacán has its origins in pre-Hispanic times, when there were once maize fields, lagoons and animals such as turkeys and rabbits. Today, despite the urbanisation, it keeps an old-standing vocation of community and spirituality. It is suspected that in pre-Hispanic times the district of San Bartolo was in fact a small island in the valley of Mexico. The icon represents that supposition.
