The story behind the icon
The station icon represents an open book surrounded by a lit votive candle, a mortar and healing herbs, all characteristic of the traditional medicine and mysticism for which the Sonora Market is known. The station takes its name from its position in the La Merced Balbuena neighbourhood, near the Sonora Market. This market, also known as the market of the witches, is one of the most important establishments in our country and in our city. It was founded 40 years ago, and in it we find everything from nopales and maize cobs from Milpa Alta, medicinal herbs from Puebla, Hidalgo, Morelos and the State of Mexico, to flowers and plants from Xochimilco. It is the perfect place to find traditional Mexican toys, costumes, typical musical instruments and animals.
