The story behind the icon
The station icon represents one of the three caravels that Queen Isabella the Catholic granted to Christopher Columbus to find a new route connecting Europe with the Indies. The station takes its name from its position in the Centro neighbourhood, on Avenida Isabel La Católica. The real name of this historical figure is Isabella I of Castile, for she was Queen of Castile and consort of Sicily and Aragon. For some, Isabella was a saintly woman full of political virtues; for others a merciless and bloody queen, since on marrying Ferdinand of Aragon the two of them created the Holy Inquisition and the Holy Brotherhood, conquered America and expelled the Jews from Spanish territory
