The story behind the icon
The name of the station comes from its standing at the corner of Avenida Gran Canal.
The Great Drainage Canal was built as part of the drainage network of Mexico City and was inaugurated in 1900. This first network was completed in 1930 and consisted of a system of pipes that all discharged into the Great Canal, but because of urban expansion this system soon proved insufficient.
Part of the Great Canal lies precisely in the Gustavo A. Madero borough, along the thoroughfare that bears its own name. The icon represents an abstraction of a drainage canal.
