The story behind the icon
The station icon shows a plant sprouting from hands turned into doves.
The hands are part of the original icon of the Human Rights Commission of the Federal District, since the commission's headquarters is a few steps from Viveros station.
The station is located near the nurseries of Coyoacán, which today are a valuable source of supply for the reforestation of the metropolitan area. They were founded on land donated by the engineer Miguel Ángel de Quevedo which had been part of the Panzacola ranch.
Forest species are cultivated here and later used for reforestation and sale. Among the species are wallflowers, bindweeds, begonias, hyacinths, dahlias, anemones, azaleas, passionflowers and geraniums, among others. The nurseries sell flowers and special potting soil, fertilisers, insecticides and everything to do with flower growing.
From 9 April 2009 the name of Viveros station changed to Viveros / Derechos Humanos.
