The story behind the icon
The station image is the silhouette of a coyote.
Coyoacán is a Nahuatl word meaning place of coyotes.
Coyohuacan was founded by the Toltecs between the 10th and 12th centuries AD. It was also the capital of New Spain when Hernán Cortés settled there after the destruction of Tenochtitlan, and where Cuauhtémoc, the last Aztec emperor, was tortured.
The circle at the centre of the symbol represents the water spring, for the springs that existed there.
After the conquest, when Hernán Cortés seized Mexico City, he chose Coyoacán as the camp of one of his divisions. While the city was being rebuilt, the capital's first town council was established in Coyoacán.
