The story behind the icon
The station silhouette is the image of the said saint with a pitcher in her hands.
Saint Martha was the sister of Mary Magdalene and of Lazarus. She is considered the patron of cooks, since she waited on Jesus Christ when he visited her house. Santa Martha is a convent and church built over the old remains of the kingdom of Acatitla.
This name, over the years, changed to Santa Martha, and the ancient pre-Hispanic kingdom on which it now stands was transformed into one of the important neighbourhoods or towns of the east of the city, called the town of Santa Martha Acatitla.
