The story behind the icon

The station icon is the figure of some pines.

At the end of the century before last, the traveller or walker going from Tacubaya to the south, towards Mixcoac or San Ángel, had to pass the tollgate called San Pedro. That area consisted of large stretches of land containing a few small ranches and haciendas; the soil of all this part was always very fertile, and great groves abounded there, with pines predominating. In this place the Dominican friars raised a small shrine near the tollgate, and to identify it better the people began to call it the shrine of San Pedro de los Pinos, owing, logically, to the great number of those conifers.

Near the shrine they formed the small ranch settlement of Tacubaya, which flourished greatly; its population spread southwards and, on joining up with and occupying the San Pedro area, it became a neighbourhood.
