The story behind the icon

The station image represents one of the balconies on the façade of the colonial building of Mascarones.

At the end of the last century San Cosme became a working-class district, which began at Tlaxpana, where there was also a shrine and a fountain, and later a cemetery that exists to this day, and ended at what is now Buenavista street.

The Calzada de San Cosme was properly bathed by the waters of the lake, and for that reason the houses built along it were considered to stand on the shore of that lake. That is precisely where the present name of the avenue comes from: Ribera de San Cosme.

One of the most notable houses of those times, which still survives as a colonial jewel, is the one known as Mascarones, next to the station.
