The story behind the icon
The station silhouette is the bust of General Martín Carrera. He was born in Puebla in 1806.
He fought in the war of Independence, commanding a battery as captain during the siege of Ulúa. For a long time he held the post of director general of the artillery corps. He was later elected senator in 1844.
In 1855, after General Santa Anna's resignation from the Presidency of the Republic, Martín Carrera was elected interim president, taking office on 15 August of that year. He began his work by issuing a proclamation in which he analysed the difficulties of the nation, the reasons why he accepted the post entrusted to him and the need to carry out several reforms in the branches of War and the Treasury, as well as the reorganisation of the National Guard. He died in Mexico City on 22 April 1871.
