The story behind the icon
The station image is the sun that symbolises the ceremony of the new fire, or birth of the new sun, celebrated in the borough.
The coexistence of Iztapalapa with the great city has not managed to erase old customs; its inhabitants renew their ties of friendship, of godparenthood and neighbourliness, of belonging and identity with the district and the locality at various festivals of their calendar, but it is in Holy Week that these appear most strongly. The dwellers of the eight districts, La Asunción, San Ignacio, Santa Bárbara, San Lucas, San Pablo, San Miguel, San Pedro and San José, share a custom inherited from many years back: to represent the passion of Jesus Christ. In the districts the stewards are chosen; they organise festivals, among them that of the Lord of the Little Cave, that of San Lucas held on 18 October with a fair and dancers, and in December that of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
