The story behind the icon
The silhouette of the Line 3 station is two Aztec warrior kings, Itzcóatl and Ahuízotl, known as the Green Indians.
At the end of the last century the Ministry of Development commissioned the painter and sculptor Alejandro Casarín to create the statues of Itzcóatl and Ahuízotl; one of them shows a mature man with both hands resting on a club, and the other represents a young man. The cylindrical base on which they rest has bas-reliefs with Nahua and Maya glyphs and the head of a jaguar.
The name Green Indians comes from the patina, that is to say an olive-coloured layer that forms on bronze statues through the action of damp and time.
