The story behind the icon

The station icon shows the bridge linking the avenue of the same name with the Airport.

In 1915 the flats where the first aeroplanes in Mexico City carried out their flying practice were prepared and turned into what was called the Balbuena National Aerodrome.

The Ministry of War and Navy cleared the ground and put up the building for the workshops, while the Ministry of Communications and Public Works built the runways and the first hangar. Mexico now had its first conventional airport, suited to the time.

In 1929 the two runways of the present airport began to operate in what was then called the Central Air Port of Mexico City.

The International Airport was officially inaugurated on 19 November 1952 with those same two runways, a few hangars, rudimentary lighting systems and a small passenger terminal building.

In 1997 the station was renamed from Aeropuerto to Boulevard Puerto Aéreo.
