The story behind the icon
The station image is the side façade of the National Auditorium building.
In 1990 the federal government and the Department of the Federal District decided to carry out a complete rebuilding of the National Auditorium, and so on 16 May 1991, shortly before the remodelling works were finished, the trust for its use and management was created. It was thus charged with using, conserving and maintaining the premises for the promotion, marketing, production, staging and diffusion of scientific, cultural, educational or artistic events.
The National Auditorium stands out in Mexico City as the foremost venue for shows; specialist magazines even rank it among the ten best auditoriums in the world for its technical, spatial, safety and technological capacities. With thousands of performances staged since it reopened, its 12 million attendees place it as the second most important venue in the world, after Radio City Music Hall in New York.
