The story behind the icon
The station silhouette is the torso of two doctors.
The term doctor is used for the highest academic degree obtained by a professional in any field of knowledge after taking a master's degree in postgraduate study, but people in Mexico have popularly used it to refer to physicians in general. Lying south of the Historic Centre is the Doctores neighbourhood, so called in honour of the academic physicians of the Reform. The streets of this neighbourhood bear the names of medical men of that time; this profession is one of the most important in our country. In the neighbourhood are public offices of the different organs of government, such as the Central Office of the Treasury of the Federal District, the Forensic Medical Service, the headquarters of the PGJDF and the Central Office of the Civil Registry of the Federal District, as well as the General Hospital of the SSA, the IMSS Centro Médico Siglo XIX, the Escuela Libre de Derecho, the Arena México and the first premises of the Televisa television company.
